I'm still trying to get a decent insurance quote.

My mum has got a quote from Direct Line for my car with me as a named driver.

It's not much cheaper than quotes in my name but why won't other companies do the same for me?

If you use the car on a more regular basis than your mother and you will be the "main" driver you should insure the car yourself.

This is to prevent the insurers having an excuse not to pay out on a claim if one is made.

This really is to prevent the insurers having an excuse not to pay out on a claim if one is made.

Every company has there own rules and regulation they can't change for one person the whole rules.

It depends on company policy, some companies don't really do that because more insurers wants to get cheap insurance and that is one of the many ways to get it. You could actually get cheap insurance if you just name it after your parents. But that somehow never allowed by other car insurance companies.
