Excess Explained

The excess on your insurance policy can be a little confusing and depends on the type of cover you have

Comprehensive:

If you have an accident that is your fault, and the damage to your car is greater than your excess:

  • You will have to pay the amount of your total excess towards your repair costs

If you have an accident that is NOT your fault:

  • You will have to pay the amount of your total excess towards your repair costs
  • Your insurance company will do their best to recover all you losses from the person at fault's insurance company, and then reimburse you with the amount of excess you had to pay

If your car is stolen and not recovered:

  • You will receive the market value of your car, less your fire and theft excess

If your car is stolen and recovered damaged:

  • You will have to pay the amount of your fire and theft excess towards your repair costs

Third Party, Fire & Theft:

If your car is stolen and not recovered:

  • You will receive the market value of your car, less your fire and theft excess

If your car is stolen and recovered damaged:

  • You will have to pay the amount of your fire and theft excess towards your repair costs
